Dance Spirit Joins Desert Heart Black with ‘Famous Last Words’ EP

Today, Los Angeles-based duo Dance Spirit joins the Desert Hearts Black family with a new four track EP. The ambitious ‘Famous Last Words’ EP offers a renewed sonic direction for the pair, while retaining the unique sound that sets them apart from the rest.

The title track kicks off the ‘Famous Last Words’ EP with a eight-minute journey through a massive soundscape. The introductory bassline fades into a luscious sphere of psychedelic sounds that come together in a unique yet effective way. From there, Famous Last Words fades to an almost minimal direction with the cerebral ‘Space’ and the arpeggio-driven ‘The Way Things Are,’ before ending on a sultry note with the slow churning ‘Casualty.’

Dance Spirit is an outfit who are constantly changing their sound while remaining true to the progressive, psychedelic ethos that’s driven them since their 2012 breakout. It’s this willingness to push the envelope that has landed them multiple signings on labels like Superfreq, Get Physical, and Kindisch, in addition to heavy endorsement from John Digweed and the Bedrock camp. Having been friends with Desert Hearts from its start and regularly performing at its flagship festivals, Famous Last Words feels like a natural next step in their relationship with the brand—and one that continues to define Marbs and Evan Casey’s “Black” subsidiary as a force bringing the Desert Hearts sound into the future.

Since its launch six months ago, the Marbs and Evan Casey-run Desert Hearts Black has already proven itself as a strong force in the melodic techno sphere. The label’s debut EP, Torus, became Beatport’s top Melodic House & Techno release upon release, and has since gone on to bring titans like Tim Engelhardt, Thugfucker, and Lunar Plane into its ranks.
